Morgan Family Heritage, a big reggae band composed of singer Denroy Morgan's many Brooklyn-born sons and daughters, is a reggae favorite as much for a prolific culture tune output as for holding a positive example of family unity. For this disc, Heritage extends the harmony principle to Jamaica's often fractious music community by inviting a host of top artists--including Daddy Denroy, Toots Hibbert, Pinchers, and Capleton--to lick their own positive lyrics on Heritage's ever-tight rhythm-machine. Heritage leads off with "Liberation," a litany of generous praises heaped on those reggae peers who've bent the world's ear. The set plays like one of those nightlong, under-a-starry-canopy live mic-juggling sessions of the past, but roots fans will particularly enjoy spotting talents like Heritage's Brooklyn brethren Ras Shiloh on "Unto Zion," Jahmali working "Naturality," and Prince Theo's passionate "Can't Forget the Times." --Elena Oumano
