CD ReviewsEXXXTRA SEXUAL PERSAUSION Patrick Frierson | 02/18/2009 (4 out of 5 stars) "Notice the three xxx's;
Let's be honest here. This is a gimmick compilation to get you to buy the album. Normally, a lot of albums like this have no type of artistic quality, especially when the record company chooses to splash naked women all over the album cover to compensate for the lack of quality in the music. In other words, it's the oldest marketing tool in the book which is sex. Is that to say that a gimmick like this can't have any type of artistic value? Read further. Sexual gimmicks have been around in the entertainment industry for years. Everyday we all see or hear something that catches our eyes and ears with erotic overtones. More often than not we're sold on it. The idea of having a piece of sexual art in your possession, rather it be a CD, DVD, or downloads for your IPOD or MP3, makes us feel like we're consuming a lifestyle that's as every bit a part of our lives as the artist who produces them. Even if it's not directly a part of our everyday reality, it's a part of the imaginative reality we would love to be realized. But sexual gimmicks can only be as powerful as the quality of the work that lies underneath the eye catching presentation. In the case of Mondo Porno, it works extremely well. This is a collection of tracks that's designed to convey a certain type of mood that transcends beyond the average romantic encounter (which is porn when you think about it). In other words, this collection is freaky deaky. All through this collection, you have a batch of sexy tracks that's filled with heavy breathing, moans, and stream of conscious laughing- all underneath some laid back funky grooves with a raunchy touch. You have a variety of sounds here from the sweet guitar driven opener "The Climax" to the laid back Barry White inspired "No One can Love". Then you get the marriage between African Rhythms and French moans on "African Love" (there's some jungle love going on with the animalized sound effects in the background). There's also some Brothel like humor that would sound at home at Dennis Hof's Cathouse in Vegas with "What do you want now, Darling?" And an all out psychedelic orgy with Man's "Erotica" and Rita' s "Love". Even though, the idea become formulaic after the first half (sexy grooves with sexual innuendos filling out the tracks), it's still able to hold on to the mood as long as you can. If you like this collection, you should grab King Britt's "Deep and Sexy pt 4" which has the same theme, but in a more uptempo dance style. Put this album on, and you won't have to punch out to go straight to happy hour. " |
