(4 out of 5 stars)
"This CD is quiet acoustic music. I find this CD to be the perfect background for a dinner with friends or quiet talks with loved ones. Highly recommended."Midnight Clear" is one of a series of acoustic Christmas CD's arranged and produced by John Darnall. I enjoy the work of John Darnall, including his guitar playing. I love acoustic guitar, both folk and jazz. This CD is probably the least jazzy, although none are overwhelmingly jazzy. These instrumentals are well done and the sound quality is acceptable. The CD length is 31 minutes.Players:
Craig Nelson Bass (Acoustic)
Alan Steinberger Piano
Marianne Osiel Oboe
Ann Richards Flute (Bass), Flute
Eric Darken Percussion
John Darnall Viola, Guitar (Acoustic), Guitar, Harmonica, Mandolin"
An Acoustic "Winterlude" Christmas

"Although not listed by title, "Midnight Clear" is another in the "Winterlude" series (specifically, Volume 7) produced by Regency Music on the Unison label. The entire series is a collection of arrangements of popular Christmas hymns, carols and songs in intimate settings using mostly acoustic instruments.
"Midnight Clear" delivers a slightly more festive mood than others in the series, making it perfect for entertaining, or tree-trimming and decorating. The CD also exudes the warmth of a family setting during the Christmas season, with a fire in the fireplace, a light snowfall, and a general feeling of peace and love.
This is another relatively short CD, at just over 31 minutes, but again, this is another instance of quality being more important than quantity. However, if you like contemporary arrangements of traditional carols, then you'll enjoy this CD.
The players include: John Darnall, Craig Nelson, Alan Steinberger, Marianne Osiel, Ann Richards and Eric Darken.
Note: as with the rest of the series, this CD is out of print, so it may be difficult to obtain. Yet you will be satisfied once obtaining it, especially if you enjoy acoustic instruments.
