"Ya just gotta love Ace Records Ltd. They have come up with another clever way to get more early American rock out to the public. I hope since they've labeled this as being year by year and that this is currently the only one that more years are on the way. Maybe it's because I've been collecting records since 1958 that I have tired of any collection loaded with the oh too familiar tunes. There are a few top ten songs, perhaps to capture the ear of the the more casual fan of this era's music. The real gems are the uncharted or the bottom feeders. Funny thing though, it was surprising to see that Eddie Cochran's "Three Steps to Heaven" never charted in the USA yet I'm so very used to hearing it through the years. Same goes for the low chart positon for Bo Diddley's Road Runner. If the Golden Age of American R & R series has been good for you; pick up this disc.
Cross your fingers that there are more to come, not only in the two series mentioned so far but the Fabulous Flips and Bubbling Under as well."
Excellent!

"What is most exciting about this collection is that the tracks are mono, so we can hear Roy Orbison, Johnny Tillotson, Johnny Burnette and others, more as they were heard when these songs were hits, rather than in the stereo versions that have been masquerading as the hits on most releases of these songs in the cd era.
I am looking forward to more in this series!
Actually according to the charts on the cd booklet, 8 of these songs did not make the Top 100 in either Britain or in the US.
But there are gems among even those 8. For example, THE GIRL ON DEATH ROW by Lee Hazelwood, how could it have not been a big hit?!"
