CD ReviewsGreat music sung by a great cast Robert E. Gold | Whitestone, NY United States | 03/11/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "I have been playing this cd non stop for the past few days. I was fortunate to see the show before it closed, and I am grateful they recorded a cast album. David Friedman's lyrics are heartwarming and inciteful. Any one who has ever listened to the late, great Nancy La Mott knows this; she gave life to so many of his songs. Highlights for me on this cd include: I'm Not My Mother, If I Were Pretty, You're There, and I suppose so many more. The cast is wonderful with my two favorites being Alix Kory and Joe Cassidy. There are some great comedic songs along with heart tugging ballads. If you like David Friedman's music, you will love this cd. And for those who don't know Nancy La Mott's work, run, don't walk to Amazon or any other place to order her cds. After an eight year legal battle, her cds are once again available to the public. She was one of the most natural singers, with a sincerity and vocal clarity and focus that was truly a gift from God. It's fortunate for us that before she died at 43, she left us with a legacy as she did. This double cd is worth every penny. It includes pictures of the show and also the lyrics to the songs. A wonderfully produced cast album for any David Friedman fan." Too much of the same William S. Oser | Florida, USA | 08/01/2008 (3 out of 5 stars) "I wanted to love this recording, I really did. I love the song Listen to My Heart, especially when sung by Nancy Lamott. But, and this is a huge but, two CDs worth of David Friedman songs and they all begin to sound the same. He has a tendency to write every song for the upward modulation that comes at the end of the second chorus and builds to an ending that repeats and repeats the same few bars. It simply gets monotonous. With that said, I have learned 4 or 5 of these songs and use them for something different in my cabaret performances and when I'm playing in a bar setting. They are good songs, but they are just too simular to each other to make for a revue unto themselves. Small doses, please."
