Latinas: Women of latin America

"Whether or not you are an avid listener of Latin music or women vocalists, this album is bound to please almost all tastes. There are portions that remind me of Buena Vista Club; others of Mercedes Sosa's Vengo a Ofrecerte Mi Corazon. Then there are wonderful Brazilian songs, so different from Andean music, portrayed by Eva Ayllon and Trio Los Chasquis. Mexico and the Dominican Republic are also represented. In other words, no listener will be disappointed. I plan to purchase more from Putamayo World Music!"

"I'm partial to world music. I'm partial to women in music. This CD was made for people like me. A cornucopia of styles, voices and moods, this collection is a Putumayo treasure that I listen to at work, at home, or in my walkman. If you don't know Lhasa de Sala's music (to my knowledge, she has only released on gorgeous CD) De Cara a la Pared is a passionate introduction to her voice and style. Putumayo favorite Rita Ribeiro's Ha Mulheres puts some bounce in my step as I walk down the street with my Discman. Susana Baca's Zamba Malato' is a show for this woman's eloquence and emotional delivery. The CD is rounded off by Mercedes Sosa, Argentina's long-time queen of protest music with a voice full of gusto. This CD is an excellent showcase of the music of the women of Latin America. I'm eagerly awaiting Volume II!"
