"An outstanding collection of rare early South African pop, including some classic swing-flavored "jive" tunes and "kwela" (pennywhistle) tunes. This disc spans from 1939 to 1981, and includes early work by later well-known bands such as the Mahotella Queens (in 1967!), but it's the 'Fifties-era jive stuff that makes this special. It's hard to find and out of fashion, but really, really catchy! Highly recommended album with generous amounts of music and informative liner notes."
