Hits...and Misses

"This is a rather scattershot collection of Eighties hits--and misses. On the one hand, this is a generous 40-song collection. On the other hand, more than a third of these songs never charted. Now in the case of the highly influential "Rockit," its inclusion is justified. And Molly Hatchet's "Flirtin' with Disaster" is a classic rock radio hit. But in the case of some artists (The Hooters, Eddie Money, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Scandal) we get songs that didn't chart instead of the artists' more familiar hits of the era. Also, you get absolutely no liner notes. There is no booklet. You get a front cover and a back cover. No photos. No year of release. No chart information. Just a list of each song and the artist. On the plus side, many of these were bona fide hits, including million-sellers like "867-5309/Jenny," "Total Eclipse of the Heart," "Take It On the Run," "Baby I Love Your Way/Freebird," "Rosanna," "When I See You Smile," "Cum On Feel the Noize" and "Poison." [Note: Nena's platinum single "99 Luft Ballons" is presented here in the English language version, which was the B-side of her 1984 single.]Bottom line, this is a Sony Music release so you're getting original recordings, and at the price this collection has enough worthwhile songs for you to burn a terrific single-disc CD to play in the car.
