CD ReviewsMaurice Jarre Still Composes. Alberto | 04/17/2009 (5 out of 5 stars) "For starters, let me take this time to say that Maurice Jarre will DEARLY be missed, and placed in the hearts of those who appreciated him and his musical career, and may God bless his family and friends, as he is now in a much better place.
Maurice Jarre, 1924-2009, leaves behind wonderful pieces of his work to be listened to over and over again; so whether you are a fan of his electronic works ("Fatal Attraction;" "After Dark, My Sweet"), or his orchestral works ("Tai-Pan;" "Dr. Zhivago"), there shall never be a day in which we will tire of his legendary music. There lived a film in the 1980's - 1987 - entitled, "Gaby: A True Story..." Apparently, this film was based on a true story - hint - about a woman named Gabriela Brimmer who, despite having to suffer from Cerebral Palsy, instantly became a writer/poet in Mexico. Anyway, while I never heard of or seen this film, Maurice Jarre's mesmerizing score makes me want to see it. His magnificently synthesized/partly orchestrated score for "Gaby: A True Story" instantly gave me goosebumps when I first heard it. His score, which I think is somewhat equivalent to that of his successful work on "Fatal Attraction," brightens my day anytime I hear it. For instance, tracks such as "House of Flowers," and "Falling in Love" severely enhance and promote my listening pleasures for this score, whereas tracks like "Learning Tree" and "Big Test" instantly sends me off to another world - that is, a world more peaceful than this one. Overall, I wish I can rig Amazon's rating system so I can give this score a fair rating of... about ten million stars; however, I guess I will have to settle for a perfect 5/5! If you guys/gals are into mesmerizing scores, or are simply into Maurice Jarre, GET THIS ONE. Goodbye, Maurice, you shall be forever missed. R.I.P. -Albert" |
