Not Quite the Best

"Heartbeat does it again with this hit and miss compilation of female reggae singers. While only a fool would dispute the greatness of No No No by Dawn Penn (this is the reason to buy the comp), and the rare and charming Buck Town Corner by the Jay Tees is a nice suprise, the comp as a whole suffers from not concentrating solely on one era. Had they stuck to the rock steady years instead of including recent appropriations of that eras sound (Nana McLean's Don't Worry About Me) it would have resulted in a much more satisfying product. Heartbeat has a long tradition of mix and match the era reggae comps and this one is no exception."
Not the best investment.

"I thought that it was going to be like the other collection of old school reggae that I have compilated for myself. But I was wrong. It's only one or two songs that sound good. It's too bad that women weren't recognized in reggae music. But this CD just isn't great."
