"In 1969 Fairport Convention created something and it was called British Folk Rock , that is Traditional Folk Tunes or the songs of Swarbrick / Thompson as played by a Rock Band. Hundreds of other bands followed this lead and even over two full CD's represented here this only a small sample of what is out there.
Richard Thompson, Guitar and Dave Swarbrick, Fiddles are everywhere on these two disks as the influence of these two masters are large indeed. So is the presence of a certain Ashley Hutchings who when on to create many Folk Rock Bands after his departure from Fairport late in 1969. Not to leave out Sandy Denny to whom every Female Singer in the UK owes quite a debt, and even so she is imitated she shall never be bested.
What you are to discover in these two Disk's is that many musicians have listened closely to Fairport Convention and their goal is to create music not of imitation but of the same quality and to carry forth the feeling of that great music that was created in 1969. If you just listen and enjoy you will discover something new and fresh in all 37 selections but also the link to everthing here is from Richard, Ashley, Simon, Iain, Sandy, Swarb, Martin, Judy, Peggy, Dave, Trevor, Jerry and onto Ric, Maartin, Chris and Gerry
The Legacy of Fairport Convention is that tons of Music has sprung forth over the past 39 years that is tied directly a group of musicians that sat in a dressing room learning "A Sailor's Life" and transported that little Magic into something Much Bigger."
