Divine --- feminine or not
Hafizullah Chishti | Seattle, WA United States | 08/12/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)
"I don't know whether this album really has anything to do with the Divine Feminine; I think I lack the proper glandular bias to discern that.
Having said that, this collection grows on me, and I find myself enjoying it more every time I hear it, which is fairly often now, as I go about mundane tasks. What impresses me, besides the quality of the performances, is the nearly-seamless transition between pieces of very different periods and styles. It works as semi-background music and also as a musical journey when listened-to properly, with full attention on the music.
I think this is an extremely-worthwhile addition to anyone's collection of serious music.

"I like sampler albums, and bought this CD for its short pieces and out of curiosity of the uniting theme. This is dreamy, evocative music. I had never heard John Taverner's Last Sleep of the Virgin -- lovely. And this was an introduction, through the Anrahn, to Christopher Rouse's Flute Cto, another knock-your-socks-off piece. As another review commented, this disc seamlessly blends disparate music into a disc I play often and feel my heart rate slow as I listen."
