Synopsis
Album Description Following hot on the heels of our groundbreaking Lost Legends of Surf Guitar series, Sundazed?s new earth-shaking compilation?Dancehall Stringbusters! Crunchy Guitar Instros From The ?60s? is an instant Friday afternoon kegger that features a stunning array of hallowed, guitar-slinging heroes. From the paint-blistering sounds of Link Wray to the reverb-swamped work of Al Casey, Stringbusters spotlights wall-to-wall, rawboned instrumentals from revered guitar heroes like the Fireballs, Wes Dakus and Roy Buchanan (undercover here as the Secrets). And we?ve also added a large helping of forgotten wirebending warriors that are every bit as devastating; Teddy and the Rough Riders, the Riptides, Kathy Lynn and the Playboys, Alan Pierce and the Tone Kings and Jay Bee and the Kats take a back seat to no one. Remarkably, these 20 tracks, chock-full of growling fretboard mojo, form a cohesive statement through the very attribute they all share: they just can?t be pigeon-holed. And, of course, that every song on Dancehall Stringbusters!?in absolute killer fidelity?would make a concrete wall sweat bullets. You too! |
CD ReviewsDancehall Stringbusters Vol. 1 Stuart Jefferson | San Diego,Ca | 06/08/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "Approximately 43 min. Remastered sound. If you are of a certain age ,the names of these groups will take you back to a certain time and place. However, you can be of any age and enjoy the crunching-in-your-face sound of the electric guitar in all it's glory! Reading the info put out by Sundazed, you might get the idea that this is just another cash-in to make money. Wrong! This is one of the finest collections of guitar shredding you will ever hear. This collection of tracks are by groups from all over the U.S. The only things in common were the era that gave birth to this sound and that the electric guitar was in the forefront. These were groups who played in teen dancehalls all across America, and they wanted to be heard loud and clear! Not all the tracks are played 4/4 time ,some actually slow down a bit! But it doesn't matter because the music satisfies like only a good guitar-record can. Mix in a little sax and a beat that doesn't change all that much, and you will know all you need to know. If you're a fan of Link Wray and others like him you'll like this." Sundazed Does It Again... And Again... And Again B.A. Evans | IN, USA | 04/20/2010 (5 out of 5 stars) "I became addicted to Sundazed compilations the moment I heard the first volume of Lost Legends of Surf Guitar. The care & attention they put into each album (vinyl or CD) is just amazing to see this day & age where digital music is king. It's pointless to note single songs; each tune on here is phenomenal. Pop it in your headphones when you're working out. Pop it in your car when you're driving to work. Pop it in when you're at the office. Pop it in & be transported. Nothing can touch you with this music playing. You're on top, baby. You're Elvis & James Dean & Martha Vickers & Link Wray all in one. You're cool & you're dangerous. Tarantino wishes he got to these songs first.
Be careful, though. If you buy this one, you'll be picking up Stringbusters! Vol. 2 soon after. & then you'll be looking for the reissues of The Tornadoes & Al Casey & the countless other unsung champions of surf & hot-rod instrumentals. Also - don't do yourself a disservice by downloading the album. The liner notes are a great read & companion to the music just like all Sundazed albums." |
