"Hot on the trail of the first two "High School Musical" movies, "Camp Rock" coupled (at the time) Disney Channel newcomer Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers for a fun little musical that quenched the thirst of young tweeners waiting for the HSM 3 film. I've watched the first two "High School Musical" shows and also caught the television release of "Camp Rock" with my daughter. I have to admit that I prefer the music of "Camp Rock."
The soundtrack itself is very good. It never strays too far from the Disney Channel musical formula, which means the listener gets plenty of high energy, sing-along quality tunes. While the Jonas Brothers got an obvious push from performing on this soundtrack, I feel that Demi Lovato actually stood above them and the rest of the singers on this album. Her signature song, "This Is Me," showcases her vocals. She also shines on "Who Will I Be" and fronts the singers alongside Joe Jonas on the wonderful "We Rock."
Other standouts on this album include "Play My Music" by the Jonas Brothers, "What It Takes" by Aaryn Doyle and "Too Cool" by Meaghan Martin.
For infectious pop that won't grate the nerves, I recommend the "Camp Rock" soundtrack. The songs are very good and you can play them around your youngsters with no worries about lyrical content. Recommended."
