"What has been lost in this era of musical fragmentation is the sense of community rock once had. That sense of community was best exemplified by labels like Bomp Records founded by the late Greg Shaw. Shaw spent his life devoted to spreading the musical word via the magazines he published, and those for which he wrote, the reissue projects he took on for major labels, and of course the terrific bands he found and recorded on his Bomp and Voxx labels during the punk/new wave era of the late seventies, and into the present time.
That community has come together again to pay tribute to a guy who was always "in it for the music." Collected here are tracks from the era - some on the label, some which simply catch the label's spirit. The bands are a mix of those who recorded for or knew Shaw and admired him, as well as young bands who are on the Alive and Bomp labels today. The affection and the energy Greg Shaw brought to his life's work is stamped into every one of these tracks. Quite simply, this is the best record I've heard this year. From the Plimsouls opening raver "Good Times" to The Black Keys psychedelic blues reading of "I Can't Find My Mind" to the Buffalo Killers Beatlesque "Don't You Ever Think I Cry?", you won't be able to sit still. You'll be bounding around the room playing air guitar, and reveling in the fact that you were born in an era when people made great rock & roll records. Here's another one. One for the ages. Spread the word."
