Welcome to our look at the magic relationship between bluegrass music and trains. From the very dawn of country music in 1923, and from the first successful bluegrass in the 1940s, musicians have sought to capture the speed and beauty of one of the most exciting chapters of Americana. Bluegrass even resembles the sound of the train: the clattering of the drivers echoed by the rolling banjo; the straight, true, hard steel rails resembling the empowering drive of the rhythm guitar; and the wail of the whistle calling up the long, edgy strokes of the long bow fiddle.
