Member CD ReviewsThomas D. (RockerBoomer) from SOUTHAMPTON, NY Reviewed on 11/6/2010... Once again, another Madacy rip off. This label keeps putting out these terrible re-recordings hoping that no one will notice until it's too late. Avoid most, if not all, of the Madacy products. Definitely NOT worth the 3 credits unless you have never heard these songs before. 1 of 1 member(s) found this review helpful.
CD ReviewsBad Imitation MJ | 10/21/2006 (1 out of 5 stars) "This is a bad imitation of a 70's collection. This CD or CD's are a "farce!!!" I want my money back. After listening to one or two selections, it was clear they lied about this being the original artists!!! BE HONEST!!! There is no reason to fabricate music! When people want to hear original recordings, and they pay for it, then that's what you send them!!!" Save Your Money--Look For The Original Songs Elsewhere N. Chevalier | Regina, Sask. Canada | 09/30/2008 (1 out of 5 stars) "Be sure to read the fine print before you and your hard-earned money part to get something like this. The fine print, you see, says that these are new recordings by the "original artists"--a term one might have to use advisedly in some cases (in the case of Badfinger, two of the main members are sadly no longer with us--so who's pretending to be Pete Ham and Tom Evans on these new versions?) This whole sorry affair smacks of getting some old pop lags into the studio to make a bit of extra cash peddling half-baked retreads of AM-friendly hits. The songs themselves aren't bad--although one must take a title like "Best of the 70s" with several shakers of salt--but the selections are really in the vein of "Oh, gee, I remember hearing that song every ten minutes on the radio back in 1975" rather than "This song defined an era." In other words, the selection itself would be little more than a nostalgic lark if they had included the original recordings--but this travesty puts it well below any serious consideration. Moreover, let's face it: the main reason to get songs like "Nice to Be With You" or "Arizona" or "One Toke Over the Line" is to pretend you're back listening to AM radio all those years ago--it's not so much the songs themselves as the desire to recapture how those songs made you feel when you heard them. Besides, these new recordings are soulless and poorly produced, so that even classics like the selections by Badfinger or The Sweet are stripped of whatever charm or interest they had in the first place. The sleazy folks at Madacy don't deserve to make a penny off this abomination. I'm sure there are some good best-of compilations out there--give this one a wide miss, spend a bit more, and get the recordings you actually want to hear."
