First things first: to appreciate The Backyardigans soundtrack, it is absolutely crucial that you have a 2-, 3-, or 4-year-old within footsie-playing distance. Like the soundtracks to virtually every other show on Nick Jr.... more »'s much-adored lineup, this is a disc formulated with scant regard for grown-up sensibilities. But rightly so. After all, preschoolers can't be blamed for having a predilection for the preschoolerish, and who wants to hear fussy, good-for-the-whole-family songs--the musical equivalent of peanut butter and jelly on whole wheat, crusts attached--when Pablo the penguin, Tyrone the moose, and Tasha the hippo are on hand? To its credit, cartoony voices aside, this animated crew kicks out the jams: Uniqua and the gang get down on the disco-fueled "Shake Your Body" and then go gently hip-hopping through the grass to their own "Rad Moves," and minute-long forays into pop, rock, folk, big band, celtic, calypso, klezmer, and even dixieland follow. You may not place as much value on being a princess as the Pepto Bismol-colored Uniqua (see "I Love Being a Princess"), but count on any TV-watching, tiara-wielding kid in your household to know exactly where she's coming from. Here's a disc solid enough to keep on spinning until gigantic singing playthings somehow lose their appeal. --Tammy La Gorce« less

"The editorial review is ridiculous...either she's never watched the Backyardigans, she doesn't have children, or she simply doesn't appreciate a wide diversity of music.
The fact that they use real children's voices for these characters was one of the most appealing aaspects of the show, but what won over the whole family is the wide range of music genres that are covered, such as swing, country, hip-hop, scat, rock, opera - just to name a few...
Contrary to what the editorial review states, you could play this CD over and over (which is typical of little kids) and not get sick of it...
With the questionable content of most popular music these days, it's nice to have the Backyardigans to play for your entire family, and be able to educate your little ones on using their imaginations while learning valuable lessons to music from so many time periods and cultures."

"My kids LOVE this show and all the music. My 7yr old still enjoys watching the show, and my 3yr old can't get enough of the music! These kids can SING, and not in that annoying cutesy Kidzbop or Barney sort of way. This is completely tolerable music. If you have to play kid's music, you'll appreciate the talents of the singers on this CD.
As for the songs, I personally like this CD slightly better than the first one. My 3yr old loves to boogie to "Shake Your Body"!!! And I especially appreciate that my kids are exposed to many genres of music, in a fun and extremely listenable (if that's even a word) way.
Adults are unlikely to go insane with repeated listenings of this CD."
More than tolerable...ENJOYABLE!

"Ok, whoever wrote that editorial review doesn't know the first thing about The Backyardigans (Uniqua singing I Love Being a Princess?). And anyone who doesn't know The Backyardigans should NOT be writing an editorial review of this product! This CD epitomizes the fun, creativity and innovation of the TV show.
My daughter loves listening to "her" music in the car. After several months of cringing to the myriad of kids' music we had on a mix CD (Barney, Little People, etc) and banging my head against the steering wheel at the repeated requests for her lullaby music (seriously, lullaby music in the car = sleepy driver and possible car accidents!), I knew I HAD to get this CD! I was not wrong!
The Backyardigans is about the only kids' show that I can admit to WANTING to watch. The songs on this CD bring familiar episodes to mind and we all (even Daddy!) have a blast singing together. And even when I'm not in the mood to be bouncing and singing (as it so often happens to us all), the music still makes my daughter happy as she sits in her carseat and I can actually SEE her imagination flying as she listens, sings and dances.
With Irish jig, country, old school funk and zydeco as only a small sample of the music genres these friends explore, there is truly something for everyone and it helps kids open their minds to different kinds of music. The music is sung by the TV characters (children) but is not the piercing and grating little kid voice that seemingly infiltrates all other kids' music. It is actually normal. And the singers are actually good! I don't have the first CD but you better believe I'm going to be getting it soon! The songs are taken directly from the TV show episodes and are shorter than other songs as a result. Although I love having this in the car for our trips to and from school and errand running, I tend to get bored with the same songs over and over and over (even with my "grown-up" music) so I'd like to have more songs and therefore, more of a selection. The more songs there are, the more spread out each song will be in the rotation and the more staying power it will have with the adults. But, boy, what fun this CD is! A true favorite in our family!
Backyardigans fans (young and younger ;) will not be disappointed!"
Highly recommended

"My kids have been huge fans of the show for a quite while now. It is so much fun to hear them learn the lyrics and dance to the different rhythms. Definitely a big hit for the whole family. I personally love this CD and enjoy watching the show too so this CD is great for the parents to enjoy with the children. "Shake your body", "Eureka", "Super heros..." are their favorites, but as they listen to the CD, the favorite lists grows and grows... very catchy.
It's been almost a year since we've bought the CD and the tunes are still a favorite. We can start humming a tune and the kids will start to sing the songs since we've heard them so often. Definitely a hit on the two CDs that we've gotten.
I'm updating this review. This still one of our favourite CDs. As the new shows appear on the TV, we are enjoying the music even more. Kids are now 7 and 5 and still love the music."
It actually IS music for the whole family.

"I've heard the Backyardigans music much more than I've seen the episodes with my kids. One thing for sure is that the music is varied, appealing, and well done. I'm glad The Backyardigans have introduced my kids to such a wide-variety of musical genres and made them enjoyable for them. I really can't picture another kid's show making my children sing Zydeco songs. "Ya gotta go, go , go...""
