Great Old-Style Tango
Robert Giordano | Long Island, NY | 06/07/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)
"I personally have not developed a taste for nuevo tango music, which apparently is the craze since composer and orchestra leader Astor P. died. Years ago, I bought some 'classic' tango albums, which I have recently been seeking to expand upon. This album fits that category precisely. It features haunting, beautiful melodies, a great blend of classic and the more modern, arranged and performed in the manner I most enjoy listening and dancing. Another plus, the musicians who recorded this album are obviously excellent performers. Its' wonderful to discover there are still great tango albums available without the jazz influence that has crept into this beautiful music. Does anyone agree with me - let me know at: gregvectum@aol.com"

"The soft unstrained performance by the musicians coupled with the selections played brought me back over sixty years. I can remember cranking up the "victorola" and playing many of these songs."
Tango with accordion and violin?

"Well, if you like Lawrence Welk, maybe. But this in not the real thing. If you want to listen to "real" tangos the way we listen to them in B Aires, try Gardel records. Though they are of course very old recorded in the 20's. The classical style persists today. Give me an "orquesta tipica" any day. Saludos"
