Samba, calypso, maracatu... We are in Bahia, in the Brazilian Nordeste, where a complex musical tradition is dominated by African influences. Ile Axe, a group devoted to Afro-Brazilian music, combines steel band with Brazilian rhythms, and maracatu with jembe. The result is a joyous carnival atmosphere--Brazilian music as you have never heard it before! On this album, the group's creative works are sensuous, mysterious, and powerful, based on African melodies and rhythms that--despite the massive displacements of whole populations--have retained their soul. Another originality lies in the group's combination of steel drums (from the Caribbean) with Brazilian music, resulting in a bewitching new rhythm: calypso-samba!
