"A most enjoyable and flavorful compilation, with awesome talent and style to spare. Mid to late '70s and early '80s, is the content, great sound is the result. Two great Rod Temperton tunes - "ALL ABOUT THE HEAVEN" (Brothers Johnson) and "RAZZMATAZZ" (Quincy Jones featuring Patti Austin) a non-stop, full throttle beat, and you're gone, man gone.Of course the usual stand outs - "CUT THE CAKE" has Average White Band with a James Brown movin' on rhythmic sound - "BLACK BYRD" composer and performer Donald Byrd does his own thing, we're part of it, and groove with the flow. A highlight is from the late-great Grover Washington Jr., "MISTER MAGIC" a stand alone classic, enjoyment of "pure jazz" is the ingredient.Howard Smiley, Harry Weinger and Chronicles Music (PolyGram Records) have compiled a perfect blend on this CD for "Jazz Lovers" to enjoy now, tomorrow or whenever. I highly recommend this album to any good music listener or serious collector of - FUNK JAZZ!Total Time: 58:44 on 11 Tracks/PolyGram Records - 314 555 1392 2 (1997)"
