CD Reviews

Good study of the Wailers' development
chefdevergue | Spokane, WA United States | 04/17/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"There are probably more reviews than you can shake a stick at when it comes to the Island albums done by the Wailers and by Bob Marley. True devotees of the Wailers like to seek out their earlier recordings, and this is one of the better collections I have found.
It is as good an example of how the Wailers developed their style as you are likely to find. The songs are splendid to listen to, and can be appreciated on their own merits even without considering the future that Marley and the Wailers had."
Top Notch

"Awesome - 5 *****. I think Chefdeverque must have been smoking a big spliff when he reviewed this one, he's not even talking about the same album. Crazy baldhead."
BEST CLASSIC REGGAE COMPILATION EVER

"Wow, what to say about this CD:

We had the original Trojan 1984 audio cassette and wore it + 2 dubs to shreds, never knowing that Trojan re-released a digital remastering in 1987. 2 weeks ago when when our last dub no longer played, we found this '87 CD - NOW BACK IN HEAVEN AGAIN. What a difference in sound! Sentimentality for the old tape held us back for a long time. But there is just no comparison in sound with this disc - Trojan had some good recording engineers! Haven't bought or heard the later 1991 release but can't imagine it could be any better.

About the music itself: it's the height of early reggae artistry, it's been top-shelf for us for 26 years. It can't get any better.

CRANK IT UP!"
