CD ReviewsWHAT A JOKE! Johnny Boy | Hockessin, DE | 03/11/2008 (1 out of 5 stars) "Madacy's '20 Best of' series seem like a great series. They put 20 of the artist or era's best-known songs on one compact disc and than sell it at one low price. And, they are readily available. Sounds great, right? Wrong. THESE ARE ALL MEDIOCRE RE-RECORDINGS AND LIVE VERSIONS!!! Bill Haley, Little Richard, The Everly Brothers, The Diamonds, Jerry Lee Lewis and more are all disgraced. And, the sound quality is terrible! Do yourself a favor. Buy the original versions and a quality 'Best of the 1950s' CD. But, stay far, far away from this one. NOT RECOMMENDED." "Original Artists" but NOT "original recording" Twilightjoan | Peck, ID USA | 04/10/2005 (3 out of 5 stars) "I must have missed something. I recently purchased 6 of these "20 Best of" CD's by Madacy from another online retailer (also is brick and mortar) and I was very disappointed that these were not the original recordings that we remember. I noticed on another CD in this series, "20 best of 50s rock 'n' roll" (sic), asterisks by Kansas City: Wilbert Harrison* and Tequila: The Champs* - a note at the bottom of the back of the case read, "All selections are new stereo recordings, except selections marked (*) are the original recordings." The other 2 cases (only 3 have arrived) said nothing because there were no asterisks. On this CD there are a couple of live recordings that start off like they are in a tunnel. Are these artists now recording songs 50 years later? The songs aren't bad but they aren't the same as I remember. Some really don't have that "sound." Be sure to listen to the songs where they are available on the website to see if that is what you really want. I gave 3 stars because I enjoyed the recordings but was disappointed that they were not the original 50's recordings."
