"Vanhal's chamber music is definitely at the same high level as his symphonies (two volumes of which have been recorded by rival budget label Naxos). Francis' oboe tone is sweet and clear, and Vanhal writes his quartets with a good ear for interplay between the violin and oboe parts. Not quite the profound depths of Haydn--this music dates from 1771--but much more inventive and less predictable than J.C. Bach. Highly recommended, especially at the good price."

"Vanhal was a one of representative composer to succeed the trend between baroque and classic period. We could find a mature model of chamber, this wasn't found popular in bach or telemann. Thanks to issue this disc, so that I could find a wonderful music from the forgotten composer. Of couse if you were a fan of oboe music, you should not miss and would find more beautiful show in it. Great playing Sarah francis did it."
