""Joe Le Taxi" one hit wonder is the best way to describe Vanessa Paradis. At the age 14 (April, 1987), with the help of her uncle/manager (French actor Didier Pain), Vanessa Paradis released her first album, M& J. "Joe Le Taxi" went on top 50 at French chart. But despite the brisk sale of the record (it sold over 1 million copies by the end of the summer), French critics portray her as a mindless bimbo. Teenage music fans were not crazy about her either, they often made fun of her fragile voice. In 1988, when Vanessa Paradis was invited to perform at MIDEM (the annual record industry fair held in Cannes, France). The audience boos her out of stage.
Vanessa Paradis once considered stopping her singing career. Her parents and uncle suggested her "TAKING A BREAK". But luckily, at that moment, "Joe le Taxi" went on the top 10 at UK chart. Because of the surprising success, she decided to continue her singing career. Vanessa is more popular internationally than she is in her homeland. Due to past French hostile criticism, she releases her albums slower than most pop stars.
In September 2000, Vanessa Paradis released "Bliss", She produced all the music but two songs, co-write "St. Germain", and "Bliss" with Johnny Depp. Although "Commando" is a hit, French critics are less harsh for this album, her music sounded more nature this time, it only sold about 300,000 copies."

"I grew up with Vanessa's music & movies. She is no diva at all.
When I first listened to this record it appeared interesting and intriguing. Indeed Vanessa Paradis mixes different musical styles we are not use to hear. After almost 10 years, she has finally released the wonderful Bliss (she wrote 9 songs). What a good surprise: beautiful French & English lyrics ("la la la song", "bliss", "pourtant"), peaceful melodies... Her voice has changed a bit, she is now a mature woman, strong, beautiful and in love.
VP sings about love: her boyfriend (son amoureux, Johnny), their daughter Lily Rose ("firmaman", "la ballade de Lily Rose"), her family ("les acrobates")...
VP is happy in love, she's a maman and shares her happiness with us. Le bonheur lui va si bien !!
I have this CD for 4 years and everytime I listen to it, bliss and peace overwhelm me.
Merci Vanessa pour ce magnifique album."

"This is the 4th CD by Vanessa Paradis that I have purchased and it's probably her best. Beginning with "L'eau de la Vin" and ending with "Bliss" it is her personal celebration of her life and her family. Vanessa's voice ranges from rock, jazz, romantic love songs, and even a lullaby for her daughter, Lily-Rose. For the most part the songs are Vanessa's own -- either lyrics or music, with collaborations by "M" and her amoureux, Johnny Depp, on a few, and includes a nice selection of songs in both French and English. For a wonderful rainbow showcase of Vanessa's talents, this CD is the one! My personal favorites are "When I Say," "Firmaman," "The La La Song," and, of course, "Bliss." Most of these songs have been recorded also on her Live CD -"Vanessa Au Zenith" another wonderful CD and DVD. Looking forward to Vanessa's 5th CD due in May 2007.
Vanessa, vous êtes fantastique!"
