CD Reviews

Great Sound and Fantastic Performance!
T. A. Shepherd | Palmdale, Ca. 93550 | 10/13/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"Van Morrison's live recordings are always a pleasure to hear anytime and anywhere. A true artist, he never does a song the same way twice. His re-invention of "Beautiful Vision", for example, reveals a touch of Country with a generous helping of classic Soul, thanks to backup singers Katie Kissoon, Blanca Thornton, and Carol Kenyon. "Cleaning Windows" is given a funky treatment from the horn section led by Pee Wee Ellis. "Dweller On The Threshold", "Haunts Of Ancient Peace", "Full Force Gale" - they're all here in one setting, many of them eclipsing their studio counterparts. Van remains a living legend, recording since the early sixties and going strong to this day. Enjoy this re-mastered disc. No bonus material was used on this one, however, but I went ahead and bought it anyway. Great sound and fantastic performance!"

"A four-star Van Morrison CD for sure, but if you have the 1998 Remaster, don't bother, it's exactly the same, except for the deletion of the re-mastering credits! (Insert your own crass comment here)."
This album never fails me~!

"I was just browsing through Amazon's Van Morrison catalog tonight and brought up this cd and was blown away that there were only two reviews posted for it. What? This is one of the best albums I have ever owned or will ever own, hands down. Why more people hadn't felt similarly enough to start typing a review is beyond me!

I'm not going to bother you with fanciful prose or over-the-top verbal illustrations of the musical intricacies of this album, I'm just going to tell you that I could listen to this over and over and over again, and then some more after that.

This is the kind of cd that you put on in your car on a long trip and don't even realize has been playing on a loop for the last 7 hours. It's that good. It has everything: fast-tempos and slow, soul-searching melodies and feet-tapping beats; it's just good on every level. After listening to this, other Van the Man songs (especially some of the same tracks that are studio-recorded for other albums) will pale in comparison.

I've had the pleasure of seeing Van live in concert (on a good night) and this is, quite frankly, just as magnificent.

Just do youreslf a favor and get this - you will not be sorry.
