"These songs are off of their 1st two demo tapes, so the vocals sound quality is poor(they do sound like whispers). The Instruments don't sound too bad but there are better Vader CD's. Get Vader's later releases Black To The Blind or De Profundis. DAMN, also check out Vader's cover of Reign In Blood on their Live in Japan CD. I dare you to go out & try to find a better cover!"

"As of this writing, I only have one other Vader CD. This is honestly a great CD, maybe the sound could be better, but you can that about half of metal. Reminds me of Celtic Frost, but faster"

"Anyone who traded tapes on the underground will certainly be more than familiar with the material on this CD because this contains both of their demos that were widely traded. I for one had both demos on casette and traded for them, and the sound quality for one is way better on CD than as a 3rd or 4th generation copy from the original demo tape. The sound quality is still rough; but only illustrates this is where they started.



First listening tracks are from their widely popular and huge demo, "Morbid Reich", released in 1990. They can be heralded as being the first death metal band to break through the Iron Curtain and sign with a Western label. The tempo on these tracks is really fast. While they sound like rougher copies of what woould eventually come out on their Ultimate Incantation release in 1991, The tracks do sound a little faster, especially The Final Massacre...which approaches tempos as fast as Napalm Death. The overall influence that comes through on this demo is Morbid Angel in a very big way. The tracks are a lot faster and sound like they could have been outtakes from Altars of Madness. This was the demo that got them recognized as a major force to be reckoned with, and should be recognized as quite a gem to any collector who traded tapes. Overall, these are the best tracks on the disc and well worth having because this demo is an underground classic.



The second demo, "Necrolust" shows where they started. The tracks are slower and have much more of a Slayer influence and definitely sound thrashier. Granted this demo was released in 1987, it still shows their ideas were forming; but they are a good starting point in showing what their songs would eventually sound like. Decapitated Saints sounds much thrashier than it did on Vader's debut, but is still a good track, as does a seminal version of Final Massacre. The other tracks...Reborn in Flames and The Wrath also are quite good, and would also appear on later Vader releases, Sothis and De Profundis respectively. It is a good release and a good starting point for anyone interested in the history of the band; but the best was yet to come in the form of Morbid Reich.



The last two bonus tracks are cover versions of Possessed "Death Metal" and Morbid Angel "Immortal Rites". Both are good covers and were featured on tribute albums for both bands aforementioned, and sound like morror images of the originals. For anyone who is a fan of the band, this is a great look back at where their music started, and from a historical perspective is key to how their sound evolved. This is a very worthy addition to any Vader fans' music collection, as well as for anyone who traded demo tapes."
