Great even without Earle

"Another on a long list of Steve Earle's discoveries. This is probably his most impressive, however. The V-Roys sound like a car crash between The Bottle Rockets and BR5-49's tour busses, combining the Rockets raucous bar-room sound with BR's tight harmonies and clean vocals. You might have heard "Sooner or Later", and as you listen to this album you'll probably think that you've heard more than that. Don't expect ground-breaking originality here, but do expect to not be able to stop listening to this album. It's infectious. As is so often the case, however, a brilliant debut album spells disaster, and the V-Roy's are no more. Don't let that deter you from buying this album, though. If you are at all interested in the Alt-country-no-depression sound, pick this album up. It won't disappoint you."
