Synopsis

Product Description
Track 1, ?Stop and Think,? is pure pop-punk. Elements of Green Day, with an injection of some good old fashion guitar-rock. The lyrics convey a bit of attitude, something you?d expect to hear from a band like Puddle of Mud. Track 2, ?Burnt the Envelope.? This song is in the emo style, a bit of Dave Matthews (from the old Carter Beauford days), with an ending that sounds more like Brand New. At 5:54 in length, this is an anthem that will likely never find radio play, but it?s one of their best songs. Track 3, ?Say Goodnight,? is a punk radio hit waiting to happen. More hooks than a bass boat. Strong bass line, wonderful chorus? the kind of song you like to sing out loud while driving down the highway with the windows open on a bright spring day. Track 4, ?Hold On.? While the label guys seem to prefer ?Say Goodnight? and ?Runaway,? ?Hold On? seems to be a hit with the kids who listen on Myspace. It?s a fast-paced tune with some really rich guitar lines and vocal harmonies (as well as the only piano line on the album). You can hear elements of Brand New and Underoath in this one. Track 5, ?Cloud 9,? is the closest in sound to the old 70s punk style, it sounds like something REM would have played in their early days, but you can hear the influence of Taking Back Sunday in the bridge. Track 6, ?Lacerations,? a song about a girl cutting herself after her relationship breaks up. This song is a good example of the intricacy of the band?s lyrics. Track 7, ?Runaway,? is the other sure-fire punk radio hit. Great guitar lines, great hooky chorus, great vocal harmonies, great lyrics, great pace-breaking bridge. Check out the complex, lyrical sound to the guitar breakdown. Track 8, "Your Hero," a very popular song in the emo style, starts and ends acoustic, with a power-guitar breakdown in the middle. As you might imagine, the girls love this one. Contains the only strings you will hear on the album. Track 9, ?Sabotage,? started out as a pop-punk trifle. With influences from Blink 182 and Green Day, this is a clockwork-sounding number that plays with rhythms and guitar fills in a way that?s unique for the band. Track 10, ?So Alive,? is a simple tune with rich guitar harmonies, and a unique, Latin-style percussion breakdown. Track 11, ?Open, Close, I Don?t Know,? is a complete shift in musical styles. Kind of bluesy, with a hint of reggae, the closest association would be something like newer Brand New. Many say it's their favorite song, but at 5:50 in length this is another song that?s unlikely to get serious radio airplay.
