Let's get right to the crux of the matter: Can the University of Michigan band really do justice to school songs from Big 10 rivals such as the University of Illinois, Northwestern, and the University of Iowa? The answer i... more »s mixed. The University of Wisconsin warhorse "On, Wisconsin" is played with verve and given a nifty arrangement, but the brassy Wolverine partisans don't really put their heart into cross-state rival Michigan State University's "MSU Fight Song." Road tripping from UCLA to the University of Maine, the UM band tackles staples ("Notre Dame Victory March," "Eyes of Texas," "Anchors Away," the stirring "Varsity") and sleepers ("Down, Down the Field," "Fight On, Pennsylvania"). Only someone who, as was once said of Michigan alumnus Gerald Ford, "played too many games without a helmet," would listen to 41 Great College Football Victory Songs in one sitting, but for those who need to feel a little school fight, fight, fight, here's all the collegiate spirit one needs. --Steven Stolder« less

"The University of Michigan band plays these 41 songs very well. However, the style is not what I was looking for. I wanted to hear the fight songs the way I would hear them on Saturday afternoon at the stadium. Instead, they play the music way I would hear it at the end-of-the-year sit-down concert in the auditorium. Even with their own "The Victors" fight song. Not the CD I would play to get pumped up for the big game. If you're looking for the marching band type of sound, try "Touchdown!" by Florida State's band. It's available here on Amazon.com."
Good, but doesn't make you feel like Saturday afternoon.

"A lot of fight songs from major colleges are excluded in favor of Yale, Harvard, Washington & Lee, Cornell, Columbia, and weird songs like 76 trombones. Since it's done by U of M band, Victors sounds great, as well as most Big Ten ones."
Pretty darn limited

"Has some good college songs on it but notably excluding the University of California that has a wealth of terrific songs:Sons of California Big C Stanford Jonahand many others. Pac Ten is underepresented - picking Ucla is silly. It only has one song, which is stole from the University of California!"

"This collection of college songs is large and includes more songs than other such collections. The songs are all well played and consistent with the style required for college fight songs."
