Beware of 'New Stereo Recordings'
08/23/1999
(1 out of 5 stars)

"This collection is largely made up of the dreaded "new stereo recordings" and NOT the takes that are the classics we rever.I don't know what sort of record industry shenannigans this reveals, but it would make a good atory."
Seemingly plain collection of old tunes a sleeper dandy

"The first time you listen to this CD you'll probably dismiss it as a catchy collection of old rock tunes, release timed by K-Tel to be "retro-cool" so they'll, like, play it on Old Wave night.Check this CD out, though. You have to put the disc on "repeat" to truly appreciate it's power. Come home after a night of heavy eating and drinking and listen to it five, six times. You'll see that, instead of getting old, these tunes seem to get better every time you listen to them. Which, of course, is why CDs released in 1997 still have songs like "Wipeout" on them. The power of this CD is demonstrated by the fact that the bizarre late-night, public access TV home auction network "Rarities Exchange.com" uses this CD as their "house music," playing it over and over for ten droning hours, six days a week, as Rarities tries in vain to auction chunks of amber, old jewelry, or debris from violent NASCAR wrecks. The show may get old, but the music never does. You can _sleep_ to this stuff. Or it'll wake you up, if that's what you want. Now you can have this music in your home or car, if you do like I'm about to do, and buy this CD. It may not jump out at you as great inspiration. But like the trilobyte fossils and Dale Earnhardt magnets on Rarities, you find that it is a Good Buy. Call in, folks!"
