REMASTERED VERSION OF THE CONCERT CLASSICS DISC
BOB | LOS ANGELES, CA | 10/29/2007
(4 out of 5 stars)

"This is the same show from the aborted Concert Classics CD, which always received mixed reviews for its sound quality.

However, this new mini-sleeve version is the recipient of a very welcome, major mastering tweak, and is a MUCH improved and more enjoyable listen than the original edition.

Basically, there is just more of everything, especially additional clarity in Bruford's kit... it's a real live album now.

If you're a fan of this legendary band, then this is the version you need to own. This limited-edition mini-sleeve is already OOP in Japan.

It will be interesting to see what UKZ, Jobson's new iteration of UK, will bring in 2008. It's an awesome lineup (Jobson, Aaron Lippert, Trey Gunn, Alex Machacek and Marco Minnemann) with fantastic potential, but with Jobson involved, you never know what will happen.

WHAT IS A JAPAN "MINI-LP-SLEEVE" CD?

Have you ever lamented the loss of one of the 20th Century's great art forms, the 12" vinyl LP jacket? Then "mini-LP-sleeve" CD's may be for you.

Mini-sleeve CDs are manufactured in Japan under license. The disc is packaged inside a 135MM X 135MM cardboard precision-miniature replica of the original classic vinyl-LP album. Also, anything contained in the original LP, such as gatefolds, booklets, lyric sheets, posters, printed LP sleeves, stickers, embosses, special LP cover paper/inks/textures and/or die cuts, are precisely replicated and included. An English-language lyric sheet is always included, even if the original LP did not have printed lyrics.

Then, there's the sonic quality: Often (but not always), mini-sleeves have dedicated remastering (20-Bit, 24-Bit, DSD, K2/K2HD, and/or HDCD), and can often (but not always) be superior to the audio on the same title anywhere else in the world. There also may be bonus tracks unavailable elsewhere.

Each Japan mini-sleeve has an "obi" ("oh-bee"), a removable Japan-language promotional strip. The obi lists the Japan street date of that particular release, the catalog number, the mastering info, and often the original album's release date. Bonus tracks are only listed on the obi, maintaining the integrity of the original LP artwork. The obi's are collectable, and should not be discarded.

All mini-sleeve releases are limited edition, but re-pressings/re-issues are becoming more common (again, not always). The enthusiasm of mini-sleeve collecting must be tempered, however, with avoiding fake mini-sleeves manufactured in Russia and distributed throughout the world, primarily on eBay. They are inferior in quality, worthless in collectable value, a total waste of money, and should be avoided at all costs."
AN EXITING PIECE OF HISTORY!... Available For Your Collectio

"So many years have gone to finally enjoy of a great concert. Formed with their first and best elements, band member Eddie Jobson present us the CD release of LIVE IN BOSTON (1978): A finesse piece of art that shows the original chemistry of an outstanding Progressive seventies band that made an array of great amazing concerts for the american union that year and carring their raw live energy and the virtuoso interpretations of the songs that made them one of the best progressive bands on earth like: "Time To Kill", "In The Death Of Night" or the mesmerizing instrumental "Alaska". It was a shame that Holdsworth and Bruford left the band afterwards the tour, but that's another story...

The recorded live music contains too, three songs from the second album DANGER MONEY: "The Only Thing She Needs", "Carrying No Cross" and "Caesar's Palace Blues". A little bit different from the bootleg THE ROAD TEST that not only contain these great songs but the song "Forever Untill Sunday" from the Bruford's second solo album ONE OF A KIND (1979).

Whatever it is, this great recording is the same that CONCERT CLASSICS, but with a real re mixed and re masterized work that make it shine for the die hard fans! This recording has the task to prepare the road for the new band (UKZ) that will be hiting the road in this 2008. ¿Could it be a prelude of a possible miracle of the first band reunion? (We really hope so!)... Good Luck!

"This is an authorized release of the Boston 1978 concert by U.K. and it was well worth the wait.

The sound is pristine and captures the band on tour to promote its debut album. The lineup of Eddie Jobson, Allan Holdsworth, Bill Bruford and John Wetton disbanded shortly after this tour.

Issued in a mini-sleeve - which mirrors LP packaging - the Japanese import is a fitting way to definitively present the material. Years ago, the tape of the show was sold by a financially-strapped record company and issued on another label. That release - which was a very rough mix - was taken out of production when band members strongly questioned the validity of the sale.

Besides the studio album, there was nothing officially in the band's catalog to chronicle the work of the first lineup. It is an essential release for fans of the group or for those who appreciate the late-1970s progressive rock sound.
