CD Reviews

Not typical U2

"Admittably, the whole Pop thing never quite caught on for me, at least not the "pop" portion. This single is an example of what was wrong with U2 with the album to begin with. Here you have 3 remixes, 2 of MOFO and 1 of If God Will Send His Angels. Now, I have always respected U2 including the remixes they have put out, but they were never all that mixed, so I didn't think they were so bad. They were basically dance versions of the original songs. Here, the 2 remixes of MOFO vary quite a bit from the original. The Phunk Force mix retains the original "melody" and lyrics, but seems awkward. The Mother's Mix is just way too abstract. This is not something U2 fans will like. The "If God Will Send His Angels" remix is more of what I like when U2 does remixes, but not this song. This is a beautiful song that just doesn't seem like something you'd want to dance to at a club, at least not with a beat, maybe a slow dance...Overall, U2 is not a dance group, and this shows through here. As pop as POP is, it still is not quite dance music with the exception of Discotheque maybe. That and I find it difficult to just listen to remixes. They are not great songs in this form and only worth dancing to."
Disappointingly average remixes

"This is really only worth owning if you love U2's Pop phase, and their exploration of electronica. Most American U2 fans didn't care for it but I thought it was some of their most innovative work. Even though I own nearly all of their singles, this particular disc is a tough sell because it's only got 3 tracks, and none of them are very strong. #1 and #3 are good, but only mediocre when you compare them to U2's catalog of great remixes. If you're looking for U2's 90's sound, you would be much better off with the Achtung Baby singles. I don't regret buying it, but then again, I buy every U2 song I can get my hands on. If you don't like U2's "dance" music then you should stay away from this one."
Rarely have i rated a single release so high for 1 song

"The single this cd is supposed to highlight is Mofo(and actually i really do dig the Phunk force mix), but its actually the remix of If God Will Send His Angels that endeared me so much to it. The hip grooves behind the remix of igwsha, combined with extra lyrics and a very soulful addend made this cd for igwsha alone a must have for me!..and as much as I love pop, I feel that with this version of igwsha and the awesome acoustic sats that was developed on Popmart..it could have even been better."
