I feel a little overwhelmed at the moment - In not really knowing where to start In this review. First, I'd just like to say that this album was quite a surprise to me, and I just happened to stumble upon It here at amazon. I really didn't expect anymore new releases from this legend, since his passing. I'm very grateful to add this to my Tyrone Davis catalog of songs.
Let's get started...
The overall sound quality and production of this album Is (Outstanding). Hosting several heavy-weight writers/producers...Sir Charles, Willie Clayton & P. Richmond a reputable writer/producer for the Malaco Label. This album Is very clean In texture. Heavy with thickness on the bottom-end & clean & crisp In the higher levels.
So Tastfully, This selection starts with an Unexpected spoken word Intro...layered by a looping flute softened melody & cascading piano riffs. As the seductive voice of Lillie Robinson (Juslillie) takes the listener on a verbal tour of the life, passion & songs of Tyrone Davis. This performance was somewhat unexpected, but much appreciated. Especially since the lost of
such master of songs.
My favorites are...But First, Get ready to adjust the dials on your system...
(2)GET YOUR GROOVE ON; "A heavy-bassed, synth-horny, dance number. Written & produced by Sir charles Is sure to make you bounce on the dance floor".
(3) ANYWAY; "quickly takes the listener to quiet storm mode. This
Is a heavily R&B Influenced track. Relaxing & smooth".
(4) TRY MY LOVE; "Keeps the listener In quiet storm mode. Written by Willie Clayton & V. Allen has a heavy, bedroom-bass line. Lovers are sure to dim the lights to this track".
(6) CAN I STOP BY; "Continues to hold the listener In quiet storm
mode. Signature Davis vocal styling, heavily R&B, bedroom-moody, nice!!!" Another Willie Clayton, V. Allen Collaboration.
(7) HANDLE YOUR BUSINESS; "TD bumps-up the tempo a notch and gives the ladies a lil advice. Great backing vocals on the hook".
(8)LET'S STAY TOGETHER; "Finally, some signature TD guitar licks
appear on this track. Memories of TD's Columbia days. Cruising-tempo, Davis vocals are timeless, Backing vocals are beautiful".
(10) WHO'S LOVING YOU NOW; "Guess I'm just a sucker for a cruising-tempo Tyrone Davis song, But this one somehow made my favorite list. Love the vocals!!!"
(11) SUSPICIOUS MINDS; "Don't be surprised by this one. TD's known for doing a lil country. Listen to (Can't you tell It's me) On his Columbia recordings. Soulster covers this Elvis Presley's classic well. Great guitar pickin'""

"This was not Tyrone's best work. However it is his last work so that makes it worth buying."
