"This 2-CD set represents the complete recorded output of husband Herb (alto sax) and wife Lorraine (piano) Geller on the EmArcy (Mercury Recording Co.) label. The Gellers (36024), Herb Geller Sextette (36040)
& Herb Geller Plays (36045). The Sextette has Conte Candoli on trumpet and Mel "Iggy" Vines on tenor sax. The various string bass players are John Simmons, Curtis Counce, Red Mitchell & Leroy Vinnegar. Drummers are: Roy Harte, Lawrence Marable, Mel Lewis & Bruz Freeman. The first 4 numbers were originally recorded on the Imperial label in 1953 for a 45rpm EP.
This album is a companion to a previous Fresh Sounds disc issued in 1992, Lorraine Geller Memorial (now out-of-print) which included the Imperial session and her only LP album, a piano trio issued on the Dot label. It also featured three numbers from a live TV show "Stars Of Jazz."
Herb and Lorraine created a distinctive harmonic quality between their two instruments.
Be forewarned, these import recordings have a nasty habit of going out-of-print fast. It's great to see some of the lesser known jazz figures honored with well prepared CD albums. Lorraine Geller passed away suddenly in 1958."
