Don't miss this recording

"Warwick Tyrell has made a remarkable recording here (sadly, it's out of print--try and get it anyway). It's rare to hear such musicianship combined with his level of skill on any instrument, let alone something as obscure as the 'bone. While the Currie is prone to turning the trombone into a sound-effect machine, all the works on this disk are solid tunes worth hearing. The Bracanin is the treat here, and Tyrell shines on this showcase, giving a tricky piece a bright, clear reading with plenty of melodic beauty (not easy!). Don't confuse this artist with the less subtle stylings of Christian Lindberg. Compare Tyrell's performance of the Jacob with Lindberg's and you'll be convinced: Warwick Tyrell is a superb artist who happens to play the trombone."
