CD Reviews

Yeah, from that Volkswagen commercial.

"I think I was one of the few Americans to own Trio's DA DA DA album way back in the 80s. I was into Kraftwerk at the time and was really into this minimalist, funky electronic muzak. It was a fun album for me, but all my friends thought I was nutz.

Fast forward to the 90's. Who coulda known that VW would use the DA DA DA song and create a resurgence of interest in the little know group. Suddenly, it was cool to like that song. On Triologie, you get 2 versions of their "hit" song (they know where their bread is buttered) and a good selection of their "best" tracks from their other albums. Many seem like experiments with sound and several are actually enjoyable as songs. Bear in mind though that each song bears little resemblance to the next, but that is good if you enjoy variety and they somehow manage to make them all sound like their music.

I personally enjoy this collection of songs, but they appeal to that little robot inside of me that just wants to get out. Some of you may not have that little robot inside. If that is the case, stay away.

If you like the DA DA DA song and have eclectic tastes, this might be a worthwhile purchase. Think of a cross between Kraftwerk and a German Ween. Trust me, it is all the Trio you'll ever need."

"I had the Trio & Error album back in the 80's - nearly wore it out! Da Da Da was of course their best known work, but I find that "Hearts are Trump", "Anna...", and "Boom Boom" are all wonderful tunes in their own right."
