"One of the original trio's from Mexico, Trio Calaveras(Skulls Trio)made it 's mark in Mexican film and music during the forties. They often accompanied the late great Jorge Negrete in his movies as his "backup" band. They are known for their beautiful harmonies where three voices and guitars blend as one. The members often interchange lead and it is difficult to distinguish one from another. Their style is sung in a harmonious falseto. On this disc their are many of their hits from the movies which are familiar Spanish songs like "La Malaguena," "El Rey,""Maria Bonita," "La Merdia Vuelta," "Pa Todo El Ano","Cielito Lindo," Tu Solo Tu" and "Ella." Many Jose Alfredo Jimenez songs are featured. Some of the songs are upbeat in the huapango style of Veracruz like "El Pajaro Cu." Their guitar work is soft and adds to the sensuous nature of this romantic music from a different time period. The songs are brief interludes coming in at usually under 3:00 each song.
