Interesting, but inconsistent.

"Various Artists, Salvation + Devotion: A Tribute to Marilyn Manson (Vitamin Records, 2002)
It seems rather odd to me that much of what can be found on Salvation + Devotion can also be found on Anthems of Rust and Decay, released two years earlier. Perhaps this is a revised and expanded edition. Who knows? Anyway, a two-disc set of artists from various genres covering Marilyn Manson tracks. Much like most tribute albums, except for the rather interesting ability to cross genres at will; trance maven Alex Xenophon sits side by side with industrial gore artists Bile (whose rendition of "Tourniquet" is one of the collection's finest moments), who is next to, of all bands to stumble upon in such a collection, megapop superstars Berlin.
Some Manson purists will probably be offended by the rather liberal treatments given to some of the tracks, e.g. Xenophon's cover of "The Beautiful People," which is... hmmm. Trancey. But the best thing that can be said about this disc is that, really, there's something for everyone; if you like Marilyn Manson, and perhaps even if you don't, there's probably a track or two on here that's going to get you either dancing or clawing your eyes out with dull butter knives. And really, what more can you ask of a tribute album? ***"
