Amazon.comDuo Steve Baker and Nick Brackney's follow-up to Stereoscopic floats in dark, sweet waves over the ears. A convergence of guitars, synthesizers, organs, and audiometer, this soft and vaporous music moves through the soul with infinite humming and heavenly whispers. "Sunspot" tickles brightly with melodious guitar, and "Venus" is a lovely, wavering piece of cosmic conversation. "Synapse" might be more aptly titled "Symphony," since it reminds one of an orchestra warming up with splashes of spacy clarinets and violin-like curves. "Sunbeam" inches lushly along with hints of melody tucked between the folds. The liner notes describe this music as "robots singing to themselves," but the various shades of gray melodies and the range of electronic effects tell why this album is much, much more. --Karen Karleski
