CD Reviews

Best "album title", but weakest overall out of 3 I've heard

"Sort of groovy electronica loops with a gritty base track. There are a couple really good songs, but there's something a little different about this one. Quite a few of the songs, like "Thin Brown Layer", the guitar playing sounds great but the DJ Shadow/Beck sounding loops make the track overall sound "electronica" rather than "funky." The collaborations are definitely worth skipping. Somehow doesn't seem to fit the sound when there's vocals on any of his albums.

Return of the Bastard is a much better albium."

"This is our first Tommy Guerrero CD, and the first time I've heard of him. I'm so pleasantly surprised, I can't tell you. Love every song on this CD. Great for setting a positive mood. How to describe this music? Mellow, upbeat, latin/jazzy/funk, definitely the overtones of funk, guitar playing with soul; some of the songs are very sensual; makes you feel like...doing something sensual!

Fave tracks: 3, 10, 13, 15, 17. But, again, we like them all.

"This cd was a spur of the moment purchase, and it was one of my better buys. The cd is very dj shadow-esque in its ability to create a chilled-vibe in the room (or car-ride for that matter). It features Lyrics Born (from 'Quannum' fame) on one of the tracks (track 11: Gettin' it Together), and the result is fun lovin' criminals meets trip-hop.
It a fun cd that gets you singing, gets you chillin, and gets people asking, 'who is this!!'."
