Synopsis

Product Description
Rachmaninoff, John Coltrane and Led Zeppelin never got a chance to collaborate. Luckily for us, there is Back to Zero. Back to Zero is a rare treat in the world of underground music. Listening to it is a bit like kicking off your shoes and relaxing with a good book. With over an hour of beautifully-mastered trip hop and acid jazz cuts in styles ranging from haunting piano nocturnes to operatic jazz epics to electro-surfer rock, you're not going to find another album like it this year.

CD Reviews

You will not find a more interesting record

"This is true genius. When I first purchased back to zero, upon my first listen I was in awe, in a stupor. I thought "Damn, this is just the kind of music I've been waiting to hear." Back to zero is exponentially more imaginative and interesting than any album you're likely to hear for a long long time. Front to back, it's flawless - its the soundtrack to a wandering mind. Unpredictable - this record is by far the most modern thing you're likely to hear. Lightyears ahead of it's time musically - Tomfoolios leading the charge while the rest of us are desperately trying to catch up to where he's at. I'm not exagerating when I say I must've listened to sleepwalker 30 times in a row. I just couldn't stop listening."

"Had the opportunity to listen to all the tracks on this cd and Tomfoolio does a brilliant job blending different genres of music to make this eclectic masterpiece."
This CD is incredible

"I haven't broken the news to my boyfriend yet that there's a new love in my life. I've rewritten the letter a few times now trying to get the words to come out right. The latest draft goes a bit like this: "Love, I don't know how to tell you this...there's someone else. His name is Tomfoolio."

I truly haven't been this impressed with an album since Supermodified, which is appropriate, because I can't think of anyone short of Amon Tobin who I've heard do a better job of fitting together samples from assorted genres and making them work as though they were meant to be. Take a track like "Gold Coast Yuppies vs. the Third World," for instance. IDM-style beatboxing morphs into jazz opera, Dr. Octagon-like trip hop, and finally guitar-picking folk song with turntablism thrown in for good measure.

And it works--it just works. That's what's so ace about it. Many of the songs on the album are simply beautiful (notably Petals on a Wet Black Bough and the title track) and astoundingly, all of them are good. There honestly just aren't any bad songs on this CD at all.

I'm already singing the praises of Tomfoolio to everyone in earshot--now I just have to figure out how to break the news to my boyfriend."
