With the storytelling skills he gleaned as a child in the hills of Kentucky, Hall makes many of his songs into fables. "The Song of the One Legged Chicken," for example, teaches a valuable lesson about disability and difference. While other songs bring soothing comfort or merely raise a smile ("A mink wears a mink coat the whole year round"), and still others encourage play-acting, they all become treasures by the record's end. Children and adults can all enjoy the fun, sometimes wacky, and often loving or message filled songs of this album.

"I was 4 years old when my mother bought me Tom T Hall's record, Songs from Fox Hollow, and I played that thing to death! Now, 25 years later I still love the songs that were on that album, which are all included on Country Songs for Children, as much as I did then. I still sing along to Sneaky Snake, and still wish I had a Baby Goat to talk to. I share this with all the children in my life!"

"I have an album with these same songs on it from Tom T. Hall that I've had since the 1970s. I played it for my own children and for other children when I watched them. Children seemed to LOVE it! So now, as a Grandma, I am going to order this in CD version for my grandchildren. They love to dance and Tom's songs are lively and fun to for both dancing and listening!"
It brings me waaaaaaaaay back!

"I just turned 31 and my mom used to play this for my sister and me when we were in like 1st grade. I had been thinking of the song "Sneaky Snake"....I had not remembered who had sung it. I did a search on "Sneaky Snake" and got here. Then I remembered all the other songs that I used to play over and over as a kid. I just bought the CD for my two children (boy 5 and girl 3.5). I just know they will love it as much as I did and still do. It has to be pretty good for my to remember it from like 20 something years ago."
