CD ReviewsOne of the best songwriters out there Ulf Gyllenspetz | 05/08/2001 (5 out of 5 stars) "I'm proud to say I have all of Mr. Ovans records, dating back to his early Nashville releases, and "Still in the World" is his finest effort yet. The record is full of rock and roll groove and folk-soul and his songwriting, while always full of close-to-the-bone integrity is at its deepest and richest. Forget about all those other Texans, this man is Austin's best singer-songwriter! Buy this disc and work your way backwards through Tom's catalogue and you won't regret it." Music from the gut Christopher P. Dunn | The Aloha State | 09/08/2003 (4 out of 5 stars) "I'm a relative newcomer to Tom Ovans, thanks to a good friend in Scotland, of all places, who introduced me to him. As a long-time fan of Bob Dylan, John Hiatt, Tom Waites, and others, I'm amazed that Ovans eluded me for so long. Well, better late than never! Whew... first the voice: Ovans' voice sounds like rusted barbed wire, like he's been through the grinder and spit out the other end. Second, the music: come to think of it, it sounds like the voice. Here is a singer/songwriter like no other, who grinds his way along gravel roads, through dusty towns, alleys, hearts, and memories. These are rough songs, directly from the gut. After a minute of a stunned reaction to this man's voice, I was transported to a place where few musicians have taken me; Dylan excepted. This man is not "another Dylan" by any means, nor is he another Tom Waites, although it is only natural to draw comparisons, unfair as that might be.After listening over and over to this CD, and to his "Tombstone Boys Graveyard Girls" (a 5 star recording), I am thirsty for more. This man is unique and powerful. Don't miss him. I did for too long, and I regret it." Like paintings of Edward Hopper Ulf Gyllenspetz | Sweden | 02/23/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "The song Dark road is like the art of Edward Hopper set to music. Sixth Avenue is a masterpice a perfect song and a perfect take. The album shows us back to reality of life itself."
