CD ReviewsRefreshing synth-pop, electro, nu-wave treats Richard Diaz | 04/10/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "Slip on some white gloves and powder your face, it's time to taste American Gigolo's glamorous back catalog, positively brimming with synth-pop, electro and nu-wave treats. Surely way too chic for us normal folk, at least Turbo Records main man Tiga offers a friendly peek into the sound bubbling out of the underground and riding a thunderous media wave since late 2001. You can see why, as the artists here inject much needed personality into their music. Take Linda Lamb's throb job "Hot Room," complete with swanky yet provocative vocals, or the cyber-naughty voice box duet "Porno Actress." There's even some genuine funk tossed in from Filippo Naughty Moscatello on "Communicate." But of course, daft starlet Miss Kittin makes several appearances, notably "Frank Sinatra" (the label's biggest hit) and her coy follow-up "Stock Exchange." Tiga deftly cuts through 25 tracks in smooth yet lively fashion, and hey, even includes his so-wrong so-right smash remake of "Sunglasses at Night" with fellow troublemaker Zyntherius (Jori Hulkonnen). Granted, American Gigolo will probably sell about 100 copies to fellow odd-types here in the United States, but at least they can be comforted when this lands in several Best of 2002 charts at the end of the year. 4.5/5 stars" D.Jerome djerome@hotmail.com | LA, CA United States | 12/07/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "A great compilation for those who seek the r e a l groove behind all this hype about "electro-clash". DJ Hell (owner and founder of Gigolo records) single-handedly started this trend with his posse in Munich. I've bought many Gigolo records for the last five years and there's a reason why! Now I cannot wait to go to Munich and see the real scene. I recommend Hell's mix-CD as well." BURN BABY BURN!!! Carlos Zepeda | SAN FRANCISCO, CA | 05/25/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "Not much I have heard or listen from DJ TIGA until American Gigolo and now all I have to say is... where have you being all of my club life??? Excellent DJ skills on great remixes from the best selection of new/techno-electro tracks that are currently out there. Tiga, offers us some great remixes on System F's Soul on Soul remixed by no other than musical genious THE HACKER. When I first heard Christopher Just " I'm a disco dancer" I went YEAHHHHHHH and had to listen to that track over and over, is now part of my answering phone greeting. A MUST!!!"
