Tiesto- Elements of Life- Remixed
J. Dunkel | Lakeland, FL USA | 05/02/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Generally, most remixed albums that come out tend to fall well short of its predecessor. Some exceptions I can think of are Linkin Park's "Reanimation" and even Tietso's "Just Be- Remixed." Tiesto has had a fantastic year in 2007 and just keeps delivering. In 2007, he released the magnificent artist album "Elements of Life" and later shocked me with his latest installment of his signature series "In Search of Sunrise 6: Ibiza," which I still constantly listen to. After touring non-stop all over the globe promoting "EOL", his success is undeniable. So, it was inevitable to release a remixed album of "EOL". Now, is it better than the original "EOL"? I wouldn't go that far, but some of the remixes do deliver its own originality to Tiesto's tracks in an uplifitng way. The reason why I enjoyed this album was that the album incorporates alot of generes and sounds to the electronic music- this mix has trance, progressive, house, electro. Now, I'll briefly run down the track listing.

1. Ten Seconds Before Sunrise (First State Remix)- This track is unbelievable. Very hypnotic trance and production. First State has delivered in the past, but keep an eye on them.

2. Everything f/ Jes (Cosmic Gate Remix)- Love this track: very progressive with the Cosmic Gate sound we love. This also is the opening track of their "Back 2 Back Vol. 3" compilation. Also highly recomended.

3. Do You Feel Me f/ Julie Thompson (Roger Martinez Remix)- A little softer territory with only a sample of Julie's vocals used in the song. Not bad, but nothing special.

4. Carpe Noctum (Fire Element Mix)- Banging drums introduced before the track kicks in. Very cool sounding drums to introduce a great track. Tiesto used this during the fire act on several of his tours.

5. Driving to Heaven (Matt Zo Remix)- Completely different than the original recording, but not in a bad way. I thought the original track was just okay, and fell short to the rest of the album, but this remix does justice. Very beautful and melodic trance. Extremely uplifting.

6. Sweet Things f/ Charlotte Martin (Tom Cloud Remix)- I've heard this track about five months ago, and loved it. Tom Cloud never seems to disappoint. Trancey with some great vocals from Charlotte.

7. Bright Morningstar (Andy Duguid Remix)- Another producer you should check out and look out for. Duguid has a very unique sound of trance, and delivers it with this track. Excellent arrangement and very hypnotizing. Great Track.

8. Break My Fall f/ BT (Richard Durand Remix)- Another one that I heard awhile back, but nevertheless the best remix I've heard of this track. I heard a few other remixes of "Break My Fall," but this is the most original. Trance with some electronica thrown in the mix.

9. In the Dark f/ Christian Burns (Dirty South Remix)- Very housey and electro sounding, but not bad. The vocals are a little slower than the original to go with the music, and the track loses its energy pretty quickly.

10. Dance4Life f/ Maxi Jazz (Fonzerelli Remix)- Surprisingly, this remix shocked me. Good build up and that "trancey beach-feel" sound kicks in with only the lyrics "Dance4Life" are played, leaving out the verses. Good work.

11. Elements of Life (Alex Kunnari Remix)- Pretty similar to the original track, but some of the production gives it a good feel. Not bad.

12. No More Heroes f/ Blue Man Group- A collaberation of Tiesto and Blue Man Group. The track has some samples from Tiesto's track "Heroes" (the opeing track on "Parade of the Athletes") with the Blue Man Group's signature drumming. Good, unique track.

There you have it. All in all, the album has some surprises, and is recomended if your a fan of Tiesto or the album "The Elements of Life."
