Rare and Stunning

"This is a nearly flawless performance, and a part of the Complete Works of Tallis series. It is particularly noteable for including the Te Deum for Meanes, which appeared in the 1998 film "Elizabeth" during the storied monarch's coronation processional but does not appear on its soundtrack; in fact this is the only commercially available recording so far as I can ascertain. Also included are the far more often-performed Mass for 4 Voices and some early examples of the English anthem. Alistair Dixon and the Chapelle du Roi have performed quite a service for lovers of English early music in their stellar performance in this, and the other recordings in this series."

"In additon to the Mass for four voices, the other familiar piece is "If ye love me." That old choir favorite is beautifully performed at a rather relaxed tempo. Tallis's Benedictus and "A new commandment" were both new to me and IMHO deserve more frequent performance. The quality of the voices and the acoustics are excellent. I plan to get more of the discs in this series."
