"This is a great music score, remembering that the score is the music composed especially for the movie, whereas the soundtrack is various songs previously composed that are used in the picture. If you have the collector's edition DVD, so can easily listed to the score only, and don't worry about buying a high price used out of print CD. Go to the menu, then click on bonus materials. Click on "moments of discovery" and then click languages. Then click "music score only" to the left. Then simply hit "play" twice and you can enjoy the score while reading a book or whatever. You don't even need your TV on."

"I had been search for this CD for over a year when I found it...The music on this CD is extremely beautiful, the most beautiful I've ever heard as a matter of fact.
Each of the songs on the CD has it's own beauty. But one song sticks out from all the rest:"Visiting Ruth". It plays in the back ground as Idgie goes to visit Ruth after she married Frank Bennett. It's unique as is the charactor Ruth from the movie. Her kindness, beauty and charm made her stand out from everyone else in the film.
It's the best movie I have seen by far and this is the best soundtrack I've ever listened to!"
WONDERFUL-MUST HEAR!!!

"I recieved this CD as a gift on my 12th b-day 2 years ago, and I can't stop listening to it! My very favorites are "The Whistle Stop Cafe" and "Smokey Lonesome", particularly "The Whistle Stop Cafe". If you are thinking about buying the soundtrack, I highly suggest that you consider the score as well, because although you may not have noticed the 'background' music in the movie, it in truth may be the most beautiful music you have ever heard!!!"
One of The Most Beautiful Scores Ever Composed For A Movie!

"Thomas Newman is amazing! Over the last few years, I've become a huge fan, tracking down as many of Newman's scores as possible. "Fried Green Tomatoes" is a very rare score that I've been searching everywhere for. Unfortunately, trying to find a copy is almost impossible unless you want to spend a fortune! I'm sorry, but there's two Amazon sellers right now trying to sell this score for $165-$275! That kind of money for a used cd is just outgrageous! Luckily, about 6 months ago, I found a used copy on Amazon for $30. Normally, I wouldn't dream of spending $30 even on a new cd, but it was very well worth it. I have listened to this score well over 100 times and have never ever tired of it.
With "Fried Green Tomatoes," Thomas Newman has composed some of the most beautiful music ever made for a movie. "Smokey Lonesome," "The Smell Of Coffee," "Buddy Threadgoode," and "The Treehouse," all contain variations of the beautiful, yet simple main theme found in this score's stand out track, "The Whistle Stop Cafe." This is truly is one of the most beautiful tracks I've ever heard! "Visiting Ruth" is another memorable track that bears a striking resemblance to "An American Quilt" from another beautiful Newman score, "How to Make an American Quilt."
In short, if you love movie scores or you're a Newman fan, you've got to get this incredible score! By all means, I'm not recommending that you support sellers who are charging outrageously and highly inflated prices, but if you stumble across this score anywhere, don't hesitate for a second to purchase it. Keep checking Amazon, different online auctions, and other internet sites. You may get lucky and find one too. In the meantime, as was mentioned by another reviewer, if you have the Collector's Edition DVD, you can always play the score if you just go to the bonus section, choosing 'play score only.' Furthermore, if you're looking for a similar score that's still in print and just as beautiful, I highly recommend "How To Make An American Quilt" by Thomas Newman. It's still my #1 favorite score, followed by "Fried Green Tomatoes" which is a close second.
