"This CD is a repackaging, without any explanation, of one of the first of Mapfumo's albums to be licenced for the American market, 1982's "Ndangariro," which presumably has long been a cornerstone in anyone's Mapfumo collection [ASIN:B000000DXZ Ndangariro]. That said, the album sounds as exciting now as it did then, with lean but complex, mbira-inspired guitar work and taut horns, all heard through the gentlest gauze of effects. Although lacking the female singers and mbiras that characterize their later work, the Blacks Unlimited show themselves as one of the world's great guitar bands, as Mapfumo's voice gruffly rises up, swoops down, or tensely testifies, soaked in prophetic authority."
