CD Reviews

A disappointing overview.

(3 out of 5 stars)

"I have to admit, I do NOT want rerecorded versions of the old songs. I do NOT want them passed off as the great old versions. Therefore, this disc greatly disappointed me. The versions of the songs off Wild Child are especially bland."
This CD is o.k.

"I am amazed that the U.T.'s would even consider releasing this cd. It is really bland... There are some great tracks on this disk, however the vocals sound terrible. People out there save your money and buy A Decade of Dance, their live comp. It sounds much better, besides, the Untouchables sound great live. A studio recording does not quite capture the prescence that these gentlemen have on stage. Unless of course, they record in a great studio with incredible engineers."
"Ghetto Stout"

(4 out of 5 stars)

"This disc is a pretty solid representation of the evolution of The Untouchables, a ska band with a long and storied past. The songs can be divided into basically two groups: latest and greatest. These are all basically "new" recordings with 3 tunes held over from a demo dating back a year or so. Classic UT's songs like "Mandingo", "What's Gone Wrong", "Whiplash", and "Twist and Shake" are updated and very well done with solid musicianship and strong lead vocals. Aside from those great throwbacks, the band has recorded studio versions of some of their live show highlights including "Be Alright" as well as more recently written material such as "Jade", "James Bond", and "Movin' and Groovin'" "Be Alright" is quintisential UT's power-ska while "Jade" and "James Bond" are reggae heavy. "Jade" includes a knockout chorus blending edgy guitars and vocals with smooth and sweetly-styled verses. "Movin' and Groovin'" is 2000's answer to their 1980 hit, "Shama Lama" with a much darker, urban jazzy sound. While times have changed and the band has evolved since it's inception in the early eighties, "Ghetto Stout" is a fine piece of work displaying the power and finess with which the Untouchables have won fans over for nearly twenty years."
